The Amarante Sub-Region is made up of a set of valleys dominated by the Douro and Tâmega rivers. The distance from the Atlantic Ocean and the fact that it is next to the Serra do Marão makes this Sub-Region have unique temperature and humidity conditions within the Vinho Verde Region. The soils are poor and almost exclusively of sandy granitic origin, which facilitates the drainage of rainwater. All these conditions make the grapes have adequate and balanced maturation, which give rise to elegant, complex and mineral wines.
